His most famous film has been shot in a village of the taiga, where local people, after long years, performed one of their most peculiar rites, the bear’s feast, commemorating the killing of a bear. This ethnographic approach hided a deeper political message, which was at that time mostly Estonian-oriented: the stress on traditional worldview, on language kinship and on kinship tout court, were ideas able to arouse in Estonians consciousness of their roots and to strengthen their national awareness, while they lived under Soviet rule, which intended to merge all the people’s and the individuals into one single, Soviet culture. After the Kazym Rebellion of the Khanty's & Nenets' against the oppressive Soviet government, dozens of Khanty were murdered and the Bear Ceremony was made illegal, anyone caught practicing it was sent to prison for 10 years, also everything to do with Khanty culture and language was banned and sacred grounds/shrines were burned and destroyed (these laws were in place for over 50 years!), so its amazing that this was captured on tape before it was too late and the practice died! Theres a special place in hell for those colonizer russians and for what they did (and keep on doing) to our brothers, you reap what you sew!

Please don't wishful thinking. Where links to information are explicitly stated - a statement that they do not exist - this can be seen as a clear deception. Although given your previous irresponsibility in promoting Soviet falsifications and militarism - it is not surprising to use such tricks.

Во время событий, известных как «Казымское восстание», казымские ханты сопротивлялись политике советского государства. Казым был новым советским поселением, организованным в качестве «культурной базы» для распространения и осуществления советских мер по обязательному образованию, коллективизации и атеизму. Первое привело к насильственной отправке детей в интернаты, второе - к конфискации частных стад оленей и коллективизации рыболовства на священном озере Нум-То, а третье - к арестам и расстрелам шаманов. Подобный подход приводил к конфликтам, урегулирование которых на основе переговоров не представлялось на тот момент возможным. В 1933 году местные представители советской власти пришли в хантыйское поселение, где произошла стычка; этим же вечером хантыйский шаман приказал ритуально задушить незваных гостей. Через некоторое время после недолгой стычки 88 ханты и лесных ненцев были арестованы, из них больше половины были посажены в тюрьму. Одним из последствий этого события был запрет советскими властями охоты на медведей и на проведение медвежьего праздника.
