Being more than just annoyed by the incessant #framasphere issues, I've finally decided to switch pods. Out of curiosity I'd like to give #Hubzilla a try.

Two questions, however, I have in advance:

Would the Hubzilla users among us recommend a certain pod? And if so, do you have reasons for your position?
Is it possible to migrate contacts from d* to h? (That's the crucial one. I'd hate to recreate the whole list of almost 700 contacts.)

Any suggestions?

in truth there is a way to import the diaspora profile with contacts, the same way to import an existing hubzilla channel (json) , the problem? I do not know if it still works.

Importing Diaspora export files has been provided since around 2015. There are two caveats:

1) Content (conversations) are not imported currently and will not be imported until Diaspora finalises their own import utility (we've only been waiting since 2010 so don't hold your breath). In the meantime it is possible the export file format could change.

1.5) Diaspora also provides a "my account moved" message in the protocol but this is not yet supported by Diaspora. Hubzilla can support this message but again this will need to wait until Diaspora finalises their own import. Currently connection requests are made to all connections, who would need to approve them. With this protocol addition, the connection would be updated by Diaspora automatically when the message is received and validated.

2) It's possible the export file could exhaust memory depending on how long and how active you were on Diaspora. You can try increasing the php upload limit and memory limit, but if you've got a gigabyte export file you're probably going to struggle. The best solution is streaming json and this would need additional development.

the dark sides :

(half dark) I tried 2 times to import a diaspora profile in hubzilla, only once it worked (50% not bad at the bottom)

(very dark) people ignored in diaspora, those who follow me and I do not follow, are automatically added together with contacts, because a new automatic request for friendship starts from hz site.

700 contacts? well in this case you could break the hz site completely.

What the f.... are you doing with 700 contacts?
